Hamilton Hammers Sign Matthew Highmore as First Player in Franchise History

The Hamilton Hammers announced today that they have signed forward Matthew Highmore to a two-year AHL contract. Highmore becomes the first player signed by the Hammers as the club prepares for its inaugural season.
Highmore, 30, hails from Halifax, Nova Scotia, and enters his ninth season of professional hockey. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound forward appeared in 70 games with the Bridgeport Islanders last season, recording 15 goals and 25 assists for 40 points, ranking third on the team in scoring.
In 301 career AHL games, Highmore has totaled 76 goals and 130 assists for 206 points and has twice been named an AHL All-Star. He has also appeared in 187 National Hockey League games with the Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues, and Ottawa Senators.
During his junior hockey career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Highmore was a member of the 2017 QMJHL champion Saint John Sea Dogs.
The Hamilton Hammers will begin their inaugural season in October 2026.
